N.C. Gathering
« on: 18 Jan 2010, 08:44 pm »
I originally posted a thread in the Selah Audio circle but would like to get some feedback here. The idea is to put together a meeting to demo the speakers available from the various Audio Circle manufacturers. These could be supplied by the companies or by local owners. Feel free to post your thoughts and any ideas you have - all input is appreciated!

Its a great idea Rick. As always its the logistics of setting something like this up that is the hard part. I will try to spread the word here in Charlotte, if it gets off the ground.

Ron's a good guy and those Zu Essence speakers are worth the time to give i listen to. They do a lot of things right. Although after the NY rave he might be a little deaf and a place a volume contle lock on his stuff

I think it's a great idea. I enjoy hearing equipment and speaker comparisons. I'll come if I can. Sundays I usually have other commitments but Saturdays are often OK.

I'm surprised how touchy some got on the other thread. As a consumer, hearing side by side comparisons helps to get a feel for whether a product may be of interest -- what it's strengths and weaknesses are. Sure, nothing substitutes for hearing something in your own room and with your own electronics, but with speakers that's not always available, and rarely easy.
I think it'd be a good idea to have both a SS high current amp and a tube amp on hand for various speakers....

It would be good if everyone from around the state (and adjoining states as well) could join in. I've already had one suggestion for a possible meeting location.

I'd be in for sure.  I have some AC vendor speakers here, but no way to transport them, so if someone wants to bring a truck we can load them up.

I've received responses from a few of the AC companies and will wait a little longer to give everyone a chance to respond. So far it looks like possibly four AC speaker companies represented. The number of possible speakers will of course depend on the venue - if only one listening room then I would limit the amount to say 6-8 pairs maximum. Any ideas? I don't have a date in mind but I think a few months away would allow for enough planning. Anyone here can join in so we have a steering committee to make sure all bases are covered.

Hello,

I'm relatively new to the area [3 yrs]. I'd be interested in seeing something audiophile wise, hopefully more than I've seen here so far. I will respond to the NC location thread, as to my location. I'm in N. Charlotte FWIW for this thread. All that I could bring is some weird music and a set of ears? Open mind...

Guys:

I would be very interested in attending, especially if the G2G can be held on a Saturday.  It would be fantastic to be able to hear several pair of speakers at one meeting where the only thing that changes are the speakers themselves.  I hope this can be arranged.

Music and ears are always good - without them we would have no reason for speakers.  :thumb:

Saturday for sure, maybe a Saturday-Sunday combination depending on the location. The front end will stay the same for all speakers in order to keep things moving and minimize downtime between speakers.

Looks like we have a host for a Raleigh area meeting.  :thumb:

How about a second meeting in another part of the state?

Very little response from the speaker manufacturers here but that doesn't really matter to me since it's really their loss to not participate. We still have informal meetings here in the Raleigh area and in the near future I hope to have something planned.
