This is the first analogue system that I've had in over 30 years and I researched long and hard before taking a leap of faith with this unusual design.  I hope to listen to my first records tonight and plan to do some AB comparisons between vinyl and redbook CD.  I'll let you know...

Last night I finally got to listen to my new Amadeus TT.  All I can say is that I have just crossed the threshold onto a higher plain of music reproduction.  I was reluctanct to spend the $ on an analogue rig in this economic climate and am SO glad I did.

Note that my digital playback is exclusively through an Ayre C5xe - so I not slumming on the electronic side.  What I heard last night was simply more real - more detail, more depth, more realism, more sheer muscial involvement.  I'm an analytical person and have listened critically to CD playback for years and have sought to make well-informed purchase decisions to maximize the quality of my digital playback and to that end I think the Ayre is outstanding.  But no piece of audio gear can make up for digital information that is missing from the original analogue waveform.

Last night I simply couldn't get away from my music room.  The Amadeus has proven to be a fantastic buy and will only get better.  Bear in mind that my TT, Phono-pre, cartridge and cables are new right out of the box - nothing is broken in.  For anyone considering this simple, quirky and brilliant design, you won't regret it.

Charles,
forgot to ask....since you did a bit of research, what other tables were in the running?

Congratulations.
I've pretty much stopped buying CDs since getting my Well Tempered last year.

Steve, that line would make a good t-shirt...
you hear that a lot on other forums...
what I like is finding a record from my collection that I thought was just bad, (bad pressing, condition) and then finding out that at least I can enjoy the music off it.....my other tables couldn't do that.

Threadkiller:

I had to make a purchase decision based largely on reviews and support of specific models.  I haven't seen many tables (particularly in this price range) that were so universally applauded.  Others that I had looked at hard:

VPI            Though I later dismissed
WT            Several models only to hear so many say the Amadeus
                 trumped them all.
SOTA          My WT dealer has used their high-end models for years and it
sounds awesome.  He is quite impressed with the WTA.
Music Hall
Linn
Rega

All I know is that I am connected to what I'm hearing from the Amadeus.

Peace,

Charles

Thanks...
"connected" is a good way to put it....when some of us first got ours, I kept saying the music floats off the record, or some such nonsense....then I saw the review in Absolute Sound, and he basically said the same thing...

I say it's a joy!

Take care

Mine is an earlier unit (unused for years in the box) and after 20 years of CDs, what the Well Tempered has done is to bring back the enjoyment of listening to music.
Now that the cartridge and tubes in the phono stage are broken in, the amount of detail retrieval this turntable affords is just astonishing.
I've heard the Stones "Let It Bleed" at least 500 times as I bought it when it first came out.  I replaced the original with the CD and just now listened to the remastered vinyl version and there was just so much stuff going on in that recording that I'd never heard before.
I'm very glad that I never followed through on selling off my album collection!

Psst....  I have a friend (who shall remain nameless) who told me yesterday that his new Amadeus sounds better than his very nice $10K TT/cart/arm combo.  Just sayin.
