Need advice for a newbie

Hi guys

You have very interesting circles.

I decided on an adventure, and I want to build 2 pairs of Open Baffle Speakers with active crossvers for the following tasks:
1. For digital piano
Wishes: maximum width 14", high power, low cost.

2. For listening in a small room of sophisticated classical music: large orchestras, a piano, etc.
Wishes: maximum width 17", high resolution/detail, high dynamics, low cost.

Perhaps the declared low cost of components and classical music are not compatible, but I am ready for a compromise. And I just want to spend money wisely.

Looking at parts-express.com, I noticed some speakers:

Eminence Alpha-6A 6-1/2" Midrange 8 Ohm
Eminence Beta-6A 6-1/2" High Power Midbass Midrange Woofer Speaker
FaitalPRO 6FE200 6" Professional Midrange Speaker 8 Ohm
Dayton Audio PA130-8 5" Full Range PA Driver
Dayton Audio PK165-8 6" Professional Kevlar/Paper Cone Midrange Speaker
Peerless by Tymphany FSL-0615R02-08 Professional 6-1/2" Midrange Woofer Driver 8 Ohm
Eminence Legend B102 10" Bass Guitar Speaker 200W 8 Ohm
Peerless by Tymphany D19TD-05 3/4" Poly Dome Tweeter

What do you think of these speakers? And what can you propose optimal?

Ps. Sorry if Google inaccurately translated my text.

You can and this. I will study the design.
Do you recommend this as an optimal ratio of price, quality, simplicity?

Its an inexpensive way to experience open baffle designs and see how they work out in your environment.

I have heard John's commercial versions of the Manzanita, his Ultra, and last year his most recent (Widowmaker II) at LSAF. His designs always impress. If you can make it to LSAF in Dallas next month he will be there and you can hear his designs yourself.

Bottomline - If you can do some basic DIY, then this is a good place to start with open baffle IMO

Yes, I really liked the Hestia OB Project. Perfect size for my room. But in those OBs with big speakers and twitterers that I heard there were obvious problems with detail and/or overload capability (in music with a wide dynamic range, tweeters could have burst). Can anyone confirm or deny that the Hestia OB has the best detail among OBs of similar value? Or do I worry in vain?

Hi,

It's been many years since I designed and built the original Hestia project. Perhaps a decent way for someone to get into the hobby. Also take a look at the Martin King open baffle projects on his website. Martin makes very smart design choices and can back it with the science. I have always found his conclusions to be very helpful.

My last few designs have centered around smaller fullrange drivers on open panels (Jordan Eikona/Mark Audio) and properly implemented subs. For my tastes, this combination works well.
