Subwoofer Integration with GK-1 and Home Theater
« on: 11 Jan 2004, 10:13 pm »
I know this has been discussed in other topics, but I think my situation may be unique.

My setup includes a HT receiver with a single sub-out (a.k.a the LFE channel).

My top-of-the-line, world class stereo preamp (a.k.a. GK-1R) has two subwoofer-out connections, for L and R)

My single powered subwoofer has two inputs, with summing circuitry within.

My top-of-the-line, world class amplifiier (a.k.a. "AKSA-100N) is powered on via a relay, connnected to the HT receiver.  In other words, when the receiver is ON, the AKSA is also on (and vice versa).

I see these options:

1) Use a Y adapter on one subwoofer input, connecting together one preamp output with the receiver's LFE channel.  This seems the obvious thing to do, but I'm concerned because the receiver will be turned on all the time, and potentially sending some signal to the subwoofer at the same time as the preamp.  Is this a potential problem?

2) Use a summing circuit on the preamp output, combining L and R.  This seems safer - removing the risk I mentioned above, but could someone please tell me how you do this :?:
