Hissing

Hi,

There is a loud hissing sound coming from channel 3 of the 9BSST2, it overpowers the audio signal. Which doesn’t seem to appear directly at power-on. All other channels seem to be fine and absolutely silent.

…powering up the amplifier and playing a movie (with SP3) there was a loud hissing sound coming the 3rd channel (which is the right speaker in my home theater) after approx. 20mins.

I am using RCA, not XLR cables.

1. Changed input cable. Same Result.
2. Swapped input cable and output cable/speaker to verify if output from SP3 was the issue or speaker was the issue. Same Result.
3. Disconnected input cable. Same Result. Hissing continued.
4. Disconnected all input cables. Same Result. Hissing continued.
5. Disconnected input cable and swapped to different cable/speaker. Same Results
6. Adjusted Gain settings with and without input cable. Same Result.
7. Disconnected input cable, then switch over to XLR input. Hissing stopped, switched back to RCA, hissing immediately started again.

I have submitted a ticket with Bryston directly.

Has anyone experienced this before? or any other troubleshooting suggestions?

It sounds like you have done some good troubleshooting.

It's interesting that the problem occurs after about 20 minutes.  That is about the amount of time it takes the amp to begin reaching thermal stability.  There is likely something out of spec on that channel.  Once the amp starts to become fully warmed up, the out of spec component is exposed.
