Pull speaker fuse with amp on?
« on: 8 Feb 2023, 04:47 pm »
Ill post this in Planar Circle too. I want to change fuses in my Magnepan 1.7is. Power off everything but Kismet amp. The amp has been powered 24/7 for 10 weeks. I know best practice is to power down everything, but theres that long warm up aspect of Odyssey amps.
Is it dangerous for amp or speakers to do this?
Again, only amp would have power.
Thanks

The amp will only be off for a few minutes. Amps that take a long time to 'warm up' to sound right ... that is from cold. Not from turning it off for a minute. Seriously.

Turn the amp off and save yourself some headache.
Like Elizabeth said, your amp is only going off for minutes even if it was an hour it will settle back down again soon after.

My amp has been on for almost 3 years, which is ever since I moved into this new place. If I was going to disconnect the speakers for any reason, the amp is going straight off no questions asked.

Yes, Ill go the safe route.
Guess I was too hung up on amp cooling down.
Last time I powered amp down the illuminated Odyssey logo stayed lit for quite awhile. Guess caps had to discharge.
It was kind of eeire, like it's got a life of its own, lol.

Keep the music playing while turning off. Drains caps
