Well folks this is the most in-depth reporting I have ever seen on our Bryston Phono Stage.

It's great to discover that David Rich is still reviewing devices since I lost track of him after The Audio Critic ceased to be. He's the real deal, a proper engineer and audiophile who tells the truth even when it's ugly. No scent of advertorial with this guy.
Not so long ago, I was reminding the ever modest Chris Russell that the astonishing accuracy of the very innovative RIAA EQ he came up with decades ago would by itself have him in the history books. I'm so glad to see this review out there for posterity.
Bryston is unique in that the guiding principle has always been giving people the best possible products and never about anyone's ego gratification. An audio engineer friend of mine pointed out that they have eschewed clever and original circuit design in favour of conventional ones brilliantly executed whenever that would yield the highest fidelity while other companies would patent a very imaginative new idea that could not approach the performance of Bryston's product.

Great review James. I own this unit along with a Rega P6 Turntable with an Ania Moving Coil Cartridge. Its not even a year old. However, I did notice that the retail price in the article was wrong so if you can contact the editor for a correction, I would.

Is it possible to order the BP-2 with a custom gain setting? I would prefer a lower setting, around 30db or 35db, if possible.
I would also love to see a balanced version, as another member noted. :D

Not sure I understand - the MC section only can be 20 or 30dB? The MM stage is set.

Hi James,
I'm considering this as an upgrade/replacement for my SPL Phonos. Will I have any issues with my low output AT-ART9x at .2mv or my Hana Umami Red at.4mv? What do think would be a reasonable break-in period.

I have used the Hana before with no issue.
Break-in is not really a requirement - I usually turn mine on about an hour before critical listening.

Hi Al - all new designs are on hold as the COVID issue has created a serious shortage of parts for the products we already manufacture.

Excellent review. I am considering adding the phono stage to my BR-20. I have the B.5 phono today. Just wondering how close the BR20-MM is to the B20 MM design. Do they have the same abilities to configure the cartridge loading? 18 Hz low pass rumble filter? Overload voltage, Etc.
Cost, availability, and is it user installable.

Hi Drew - only change is surface mount parts but the unit you have now has the flexibility you mentioned - the new version does not.
