It is being reported that Manny AND Ortiz both tested positive for PED's in 2003.

If I recall correctly, hasn't Ortiz been claiming for years that he never used any PED's?   :nono:

Sad, sad, sad...

Nobody was clean.  You know Brady Anderson was juiced when he hit 50 dingers in '96.  McGuire talked about taking Andro as supplement -- it was legal then.  The supplements were big even among plain folks who were generally active and athletic.  You could get anything at GNC back then.  The only question left is really if the player stopped when the league banned the use of it.   Some clearly have not.

No surprise in the least, to me :(

Look how overstuffed these two are - you just don't typically get that large without significant amounts of anabolic substances from outside your own body.

Growth hormone (HGH), weightlifting or supplements don't build the type of muscle needed to whack 90mph fastballs back over the walls - testosterone primarily does.

If I was offered this crap ('juice') as a 19 year old sprinter working out in the gym by the assistant coach of the power lifting team in 1982.....how difficult is it to believe that it's been in Major League sports for at least this long?

Kris,

I wasn't one of the people claiming that every person on my championship teams was clean (I am not saying you in particular - rather all the Red Sox fans who were claiming their championship was superior due to getting their championship without guys who were juiced).

This is especially true for all those Sox fans who attacked A-Rod, Giambi, etc..

So be careful with those pics...

Careful?  I was not throwing stones I have no need to be.  I would never claim to know who did what.  I am a bit bummed about Papi if it is true.

BTW, I am not in favor of these names leaking out in some type of random (or maybe not so random) fashion...

At this point, the list either needs to be destroyed (it never should have been made public anyway) or the full contents divulged.

The league cannot punish anybody on the list for the positive result.  That was the stipulation.  They can, however, punish anybody who subsequently gets caught with positive result of banned substances, e.g. Manny.   It's just a legacy issue with these superstars.  HOF becomes problematic and their market value tanks as endorsement deals vanish.  In case of Ortiz, you can say the physical withdrawal is pretty severe.  I think the Sox Nation would actually welcome a 162 game ban -- it would free up a roster spot.
