Another listening session...SMALLER one...
« on: 21 Sep 2004, 06:28 pm »
Hey guys,

Shokunin and I were exchanging some thoughts about the possibility of biamping some speakers w/ tubes for the highs and mids and driving the woofers with a solid state amp.

I thought it might be a good idea to host a small listening session to do some comparative listening...

Also we could spend some more time comparing the Onix CD-1 with my digital front end as well as my Pioneer DV-AX10 universal player...

So far there's Shokunin and me...Anyone else interested in this one? Not sure how many toob guys we got here...Mebbe John Casler and Jon L?

Mebbe i can convince John Casler to bring out the Son of Ampzilla again so we can spend much more quality time raising his newborn!

Just what little AZ needs a bunch of "God Fathers".

I might be able to make it, if schedule permits.

But only in the preamp currently.

I'd be glad to have some folks over soon....John, we still have yet to meet up!

I've heard biamping with tubes and SS can be magical if done well.  I would love to come.  My tube amp is on the low side of the power scale (10 watts PP, Sophia Baby) but is wonderful at lower listening levels.  I'd be happy to bring it (and my Dared tube amp you wish to add a tube pre, it even has a remote) if you want more gear to compare.

Yes, and I think all the JR 201's left the building (you and Shokunin both sold??)

We should pick a Sunday or Sat Morning and maybe start at my place with the SoAmpzilla in system and then pull the SoA and pop over to your place and hear it on your Sophia's

I've got the next two weekends free if that works for anyone.

EE MiniMax CDP > EE MiniMax Pre > Son of Ampzilla > VMPS 626Rs  all wired with AudioQuest Cheetahs and Volcano's

Maybe we can get Shokunin and whoever else might be interested.

Cool!

Now if we can roundup Shaukat, Shokunin, and anyone else who wants to hear the AMPzilla on 626Rs, and Wilson Sophia's we'll be all set.

If anyone else is interested, post or e-mail me and I'll keep you "in the loop".

Did you already ship the 201's??

John,

That's cool - I am free this week-end. That should work for me.

Shaukat, Shokunin, Keith, anyone prefer Sat over Sunday?

I am free both days.

Also if anyone else in the area is interested, let us know.

would love to come, but i don't think i wanna make the drive again so soon unless there's great gear to be bought for pennies on the dollar.

plus there's a bunch of yardwork that's got me name written all over it calling out to me.  :(

Hey guys,

I'm sick as dog right now, looks like i'll have to miss the gathering this weekend, no use trying to do any critical listening when my sinus' are plugged.

If your up Sunday Morning (10:30 ish) we'll be firing up the Son of AMpzilla before the LA Audiophile Society Meeting @ Optimal Enchantment.

Call me if you can make it.  I think the MDOg is on the books.
