So how do you place your speakers?

What's most important to you, flat frequency response or imaging?  WAF or I put where I want if you don't like it move in with yer mom?  Do you set 'em up for the sweet spot, or do you need broad field imaging that works for several seats?  And for a twist, is your sub on plane with the speakers, or do you set it back in a semi circle.  Do you subscribe to a set method, Master Set, Cardas, 1/3-1/5 rule, Audio Physic, etc.  Or do you just put 'em where they sound good?  A mix of methods?  Spill your secrets.

The impetus for this is I'm setting up my new listening room and I get fabulous imaging in one setup, with huge bass peaks and dips, like +&- 9db.  Another location I get ruler flat response, but imaging suffers.  I'm working out the compromise now, but I don't really need advice, I'm interested in your methods and thoughts though.

Hi Letitroll98.
(Another strange and funny name.)
Most important for me is imaging and/or sound stage.
Can put my V1 and V2 almost anywhere I want, as long as they don't block the view to the TV.
Broad field imaging is always better, because sometime you want to share your music with someone that like music as much as you do and that other someone, it's never my wife, she could not careless about hi fidelity music, for her a getto blaster is good enough to listen to her Vietnamese music.
No sub needed with the V1 and V2.
<< Do you subscribe to a set method, Master Set, Cardas, 1/3-1/5 rule, Audio Physic, etc. >>
Sorry, don't understand the abobe sentence, therefore, cannot comment.
I will put them where they sounds best, if that place is in the middle of the living room, that's where they will be, however, after the music listening session, they will be pushed in a corner.
No secret, only (For me) common sense.

I've created an enclosed 54 inch diameter circle, perfectly measured and placed in relation to the  front and side walls, on my hard wood flooring.

Three 18 inch diameter high density mdf lazy susans on rare-earth-mineral plated bearings, with frictionless walls have been placed within each of these circles. Six total lazy susans, three per side.

Not sure how many possible placement options I have at this point, but it will approach infinity once I figure out lift and tilt options via noise-free and rf/emi/grunge etc. absorptive hydraulics.

Next stage planning is in place to tweak the heck out of fully optimizing timing and phase coherence. An attempt will be made to maximize PRAT via the very green solution of harvesting the sympathetic vibrations between the hydraulics and speaker set. Side benefit of said tweak will be the flexibility to dial in the soundstage of my dreams based on my seating / standing height, position and movement in the room.

To do so I will be replacing the two-dimension lazy susan surfaces with 18 inch diameter half-balls (idea stolen from exercise catalog) - speakers will be bolted on to take full advantage of the isolation this approach offers.

Final plans are to have aircraft carrier like elevators and conveyors so any specific speaker pair can be brought to the surface for sonic launches. Still negotiating use of the living room below the audio room for said plans. The out-of-sight audio equipment argument seems to be gaining WAF approval.

Serious compromises were made to achieve a true balance in WAFiness - to accomplish this, decisions on surface materials and cosmetics were completely abdicated, as long as psych-O-acoustics were left unaffected and un-disturbed.

Did get everything else. All in all, not a bad showing.

Ha!  What's really funny is that I'm sitting here figuring out to implement it in my room.  I think it might actually work.

Hi Letitroll98
Thanks a lot for all the links to valuable, indispensable, informative and useful information on speaker placement and more.
Now, I have enough reading for my whole Sunday!
Here's an old audio magazine clipping that I had for many months, I wonder if this could make some Audio Circle members dream of having the same.
Have a nice Sunday.
