Darn handsome speakers there. And just what kit is that - I didn't see it on the Selah site. Did you arrange for the custom Tanzanite through Rick? How expensive was the upgrade, if I may ask?

Listening to the non-kit Tempestas as I type this.

The last website listing for the Tanzanite appears to be around the end of 2012.  Here is an archive of the page: https://web.archive.org/web/20121222051334/http://www.selahaudio.com/id53.html

You can also see some photos on the current Selah website under Gallery > Monitors
#25  Gloss Black
#26  Makore
#27  Waterfall Bubinga
#32  Waterfall Bubinga
#36  Pau Ferro (Santos Rosewood)

Beautiful. One of the highest value speakers ever made, I think.

Those look great!

I've never heard these (nor the Tempestas for that matter). Can you describe their sound and can you think of any similar sounding commercial speaker that comes to mind that it might compare to?

Thanks!

Michael

The Tanzanite was first available in 2006 and I can still supply kits or assembled speakers; however, I don't feature it on the site anymore. A few reasons for this, one being that having too many designs listed tends to make decisions for customers more difficult. There are also some updates that I would do with the design in terms of different drivers. The Tempesta actually came about as a result of the Tanzanite to achieve the maximum performance from the design format. I just received in some new ribbon tweeters and also have another woofer that could be implemented for an excellent 3-way.

Would love to hear what you think of improvement on this design because it's still one of the best sounding 3-way small speakers I've ever heard

I seem to suffer this malady. So much candy to choose from; so few places to put them, and my wife just doesn't understand why I just hafta have another pair of speakers.

I'll eventually figure out my next purchase.

I have not broken any accuton drivers from
reasonable moving conditions. I have a similar
speaker (drivers) to Ed's...(ecramer)

Good luck to you.

More refined highs with a new ribbon design and greater bass extension and impact with a different woofer. I would give someone a really nice price on a pair!

What kind of price could you do on a kit?
