NX-Otica build thread.
« on: 23 May 2016, 08:52 pm »
There are several guys building NX-Otica's right now including myself. Please post your build pics here.

I textured and painted my bases to look like a block of granite. I first rolled them with a couple of coats of Duratex. Then three different colors of paint was used to give them the granite look. An artist buddy of mine, Ron Zimmerman, laid on the paint and had fun with it. Then I lightly sprinkled on some Copper colored paint using a tooth brush. I just flicked a little on them by pulling the bristles back with my thumb and letting them flick back making small specks.

It is hard to see the Copper flakes in the pictures, but when the light hits them they really pop.

Only the outside edges will show. So I clear coated them all the way around. That's why they look a little bare in the center (not as shiny).

The front baffles have been painted Copper to match the phase plugs on the woofers.

They were polished out and clear coated too.

Here is a close up of a base and a baffle.

I still have to roll coat the inside of the woofer holes and the back sides with Duratex.

I can't wait to get them together.

Wow -- those look great, guys!  I love seeing these bad boys coming together "in the wild."  :thumb:

I can only add that I finally dry fit one of the open baffle triple kits that Jay cut to match the -Otticas angle.  I can't really get a good picture where I'm working, but I'll post to the sub thread when I do.

You guys are inspiration factories -- I have a lot of catching up to do!

Made some progress on these guys over the weekend. My brother Jon has learned a lot about building crossovers and volunteered to knock out the network. All in all, the process has been smooth and Danny is always there to help along the way. Unfortunately one if the NQ drivers was DOA so we haven't had a chance to check out both speakers. Glueing down the speakers went much easier than I ever expected and once again, Jay and Don delivered in spades. Anyhow, things are coming together one step at a time.

Why is the crossover plate a triangle?

Thanks! The plate fits to the contour of the box on the back.

This is a little different. It is just the MTM section of the NX-Otica.  The cabinets are unfinished. I mounted the drivers so I can test a pair of NX-Otica crossovers I'm building for a fellow AC'er when I get them done.

The wires are there to make it easy to hook to the networks with alligator clips.

Anxiously awaiting your take on the Wedgie vs the NX-Ottica MTM section.

They turned out nice Mike :beer;
If there is interest,  I'll  maybe continue on with getting an actual run going.  This of course also depends on the availablility fo the NEO 3
