Supravox drivers
« on: 29 Mar 2017, 03:54 pm »
Hi Guys,

I am looking to build a pair of speakers based around the Supravox 165-2000 wide range driver. I plan to use it in a large ~70 Litre Aperiodic enclosure, build to go up against the rear walls.

I have decided on the 165-2000 as I have heard the 215-RTF64 before in OB and really liked them, but I don't really have space for a big OB setup, hence looking at an aperiodic enclosure to tame the high Q of the 165-2000.

I plan to use my DIY Decware Zen, so came to the 165-2000 with its mix of sensitivity, midrange performance and bass. I have had the Veravox 5S previously and this is probably the closest available driver, although a little larger.

I notice that the 'EXC' Field Coil version is very similar price but unsure about a PSU for it, in a simple domestic system.

Has anyone had any experience with either the 165-2000 or 165-2000 EXC?

This brand is rarely owned in US, you should check w/Supravox guys your plans, the 165 Coil PSU is a low voltage, just 5 to 10V.

Thanks, the Field Coil version actually looks better in a sealed box with the lower qts (@10v).

I read somewhere that Field Coils need good ventilation?

Correct, it build heat more than magnets.
If the coil operates at low basis it should warm up little, but if the coil are small or works at high basis regimen (+50%) it should heat more.
