ICE/Purifi Implementations-Latest Information
« on: 28 Feb 2022, 03:18 pm »
Hi.  Is anyone aware of current threads/info related to ICE and Purifi implementations?  I’m curious to know which manufacturers are using them and how their implementations differ. A lot of what I’m finding is relatively dated.
Thank you.

I've had the NAD and Apollon Purifi amps. I preferred the Apollon over the NAD. The overall fit/finish was better and it had Apollon's Sparkos pro input buffers. I'm sure there are more companies that use the modules now but here is a list I looked into at the time:

NAD
Apollon
VTA
Audiophonics
T&A
LKV Research
DIY (using an Eval1 board)

I can't speak specifically to the sound of the ICE modules, but I have a Nord Accounstics NC500 with Hypex modules and it sounds delicious!  I believe they also make one with ICE modules, and while I can't speak to its sound, the build quality, fit and finish, connectors, etc., are all excellent.  It might be worth taking a look at them.  I've been converted!

Bluesound (same as NAD).

I saw this and thought only of the Bluesound Powernode.  But now I’m wondering about my 4 year old NAD T758 AVR.  I learned after the fact that it’s a Class D amp but haven’t looked into what they used.

Thank you.  I’ve spent a fair amount of time considering PS Audio, the M700 in particular.  But I didn’t pickup on the 1200 using what I gather is a higher end ICE edge module than the 700.  I assumed it was the same module scaled up to 1200w.
I enjoyed your M1200 / Vision SET400 comparison in a Spatial Circle XA25 thread if I remember correctly.  It’s your experience that got me looking at Van Alstine.  The Vision SET 400 is being updated so won’t be available until mid Apr but that steered me towards the DVA M225.  I’m not hung up on mono blocks but the M700/1200 got me thinking that direction.

VTV was also recommended to me by Spatial as a good option for the M4 along with Apollon.

Edit: added Bluesound/NAD

The T+A A200 looks impressive.  https://www.ta-hifi.de/en/audiosystems/series-200/a-200-power-amplifier/
