Wines for Thanksgiving 2011

Uncomplicated new world Pinot Noir to accompany your tasty turkey without overpowering it.
A semi-dry Vouvray from the Loire valley should have just the right touch for all your traditional Turkeyday trimmings.

Great price on them right now and you should be able to get them before the Day -- free ship if you mix and match to make a case.

Disclaimer:  I am not associated with the store at all.  I just think they are good deals.

I ran across a red blend at Costco that is quite nice, by 14 Hands called "Hot to Trot", awesome for under $9.00!
Highly recommended.

yeah, thanks Rim. I have to pick up wine for our dinner too.

We just had Pennywise Pinot Noir with Roasted Chicken and it was very good for $10. Also understated but tasty and It it seems to be available many places around here. http://www.klwines.com/detail.asp?sku=1075881 Pinots tend to be a bit pricier to get a decent one. This could be an everyday wine if you are one to really splurge on Thanksgiving and go all out on the top vineyards.

You are welcome.  FYI, a Kosta Browne wine from the same appellation/year was just announced as the #1 wine of the year by WS.  So the terroir and the vintage are good. Under $14, I would take it.  Oh, I did take it.

I like Riunite Rim.  Is that bad?

Riunite is Italian Ernest Gallo.  You are lucky if you like it because you can really afford it quite easily.  So, you are in a good situation.

Fruity New World Pinot Noir is a classic pairing for turkey and trimmings.  Why not make it a bubbly and go for the gusto. :wine:

Gruet Blanc de Noir is cheap and it was just voted #43 wine of 2011 by WS.

Rim-
I am going with Ponzi. They have a Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris that were pretty popular
a couple of years ago.
From the Willamette Valley of Oregon.

I do want to try the Gruet Blanc de Noir.
In New Mexico they grow my favorite Chiles, so why not try their wine.

Willamette Valley is good.  Try to get the '08 vintage.  I stocked up on '08s which is a great vintage that really expresses the essence of Oregon Pinot Noir - light in texture but rich in fruity flavors and in perfect harmony.  In other words, just what you want for your traditional turkey and trimmings.  :thumb:

The '08 going for $55. More recent vintage going for $26, that may be me.

See if you can find 2008 Argyle Willamette Valley Pinot Noir.  Released at $20, it is their most basic cru but it reflects the quality of the vintage.  90 Spectator rated and a good value.  I think I posted this on the other thread when it was going for $18.

This goes fantastic with poultry and fish. It's a real sleeper outside of CA.  8)

I love a good Condrieu and this Viognier would work great if the terroir is similar.   :thumb:
