My basement Media Room / Wet Bar build
« on: 2 Oct 2014, 06:54 pm »
Thought I'd document my basement finish.  The framers started back in late-August and we're due to be done next week.  Here was the rough floorplan:

And here's a 360° view of the basement as it sat empty (you can scroll around within the picture):

Framing done! Here's the 360° view:

Here's the blocking they added for the TV.  Maybe more than necessary, but at least I know I'll hit wood when I drill for the mounts!

And here's the built-in audio cabinet that will have full rear access via the storage area behind it. 24"W x 48"H, starting 18" off the floor:

Here's a few shots showing some of the electrical/audio cabling as well as the ceiling insulation.  If you look close you can see that they didn't follow my directions for where to locate the left and right speaker drops -- they mounted them adjacent to the electrical outlets! That had to get corrected.

Sheetrocking done.  Here's the front wall where the TV and speakers will go -- you can see the audio and TV HDMI drops:

And the bar area:

And the audio cabinet (the back still needs to be cut out as well as shelves / glass door installed):

Now we're getting somewhere! Paint is done and tile is in.  Here's a pic of the tile accent wall at the front of the room (where the TV will go):

And the bar floor tile:

I did the audio connections myself to make sure they were done how I wanted. :)

One of the surround drops:

Bar cabinets started going in.  Realized that one of the cabinets is going to cover a rear surround speaker drop so that had to move.  Also realized that the bar can light is awfully close to the cabinet but can't do anything about it due to beams / ducting / plumbing in the ceiling.

Bathroom tile is up:

Getting ready to install the TV mount. Measure 8 times, drill through the tile once! :D

And that's where we're at as of 2 October.  My Samsung UN75HU8550 television is set to arrive this afternoon, granite and flooring go in next week, and then it's time to move in!

Love seeing builds like this, after going through my own last Winter, and sharing it here.

I learned a ton through the suggestions of other members, looks like you thought it through very well from the get go.

Man, that really was a lot of blocking for the TV!  I just made sure that there were studs where I was going to mount it, and left it at that.  I did add blocking to the framing where my surrounds were wall mounted.

Sadly, my "cut a 1 inch hole and fish for the wire and then hide that hole with the wall mounted speaker" pales in comparison to your very nice and proper pass through with a nicely finished wiring look!

Looks like it is coming together nicely, you folks must be getting antsy to get in there and kick back.

Nice work.

Well well, look what arrived today.  Just need the basement to get finished next week so I can install it!

That's a 55" Samsung LED on the wall for reference!

Hi pg_rider.
WOW ! Well documented with plenty of pictures and a panoramic view.
That's a first, never seen that before.
Thanks for the guided tour.
I look forward to see the 100% completed set-up.
