headphones for live sound mixing?
« on: 26 Feb 2008, 11:53 pm »
I've been recruited once again by friends to mix sound for their band, and I need a set of closed type phones that are low impedence. (mixer board amp doesn't have a lot of output) Nice smooth midrange would be nice and $100 max. Thanks.

Give yourself (and your ears) a treat, stretch the budget, and just get the Audio Technica ATH M-50s that boead is selling for $130!!!:

I guaruntee that you'll never regret it for a nano-second.

For that application I don't know of anything at any price that will touch them. It is just a bonus that:
1. they are cheap
2. they fold
3. they come with a padded carrying pouch, like a microphone.

My son bought a pair of i-Grado headphones and I must say I was quite stunned by the quality of these headphones (about USD 49)! Tried a few Sennheisers which were more expensive (cannot remember the model nos) but the i-Grado was decisively better! It seems to have garnered quite a number of accolades!
