dspNexus 2x8 as a recording setup
« on: 17 Apr 2021, 12:31 pm »
Both the dspMusik 2x8 and the new dspNexus 2x8 systems have an AKM AK5397 ADC for balanced analog inputs.  The ADC's output can be sent to the USB port for external use.  This makes it capable of recording analog to digital with an external computer like the HAL MS-6 Music Server.

There is also an RIAA capability that one owner developed for his phono rig with a balanced output flat gain phono preamp in front of the ADC's.  That is his way to play LP's with his system.

Using programs like Audacity and Adobe Audition gives the capability to record the ADC's outputs directly.  I use it for guitar rig recording with external mics like Shure SM57's and Stellar X2 mics with my Earthworks 1022 mic preamp.  Works well and sounds excellent.

Since the ADC's data can be routed out the USB interface, it also makes it possible to process the analog data before going out the DAC's.  Programs like Reaper let you use VST plugins for things like MathAudio RoomEQ on the analog signal.

Very versatile system.
