Title: M3 Sapphire Wood Veneers
Post by: Tangram on 29 Apr 2021, 11:19 pm
Hi everyone, I've been lurking for a while but have decided to purchase a pair of M3 Sapphires. My question is purely cosmetic. Recognizing that personal taste overrides everything, can Spatial owners comment on the veneers? For example, does the walnut veneer tend to "yellow" with time? The grain on the Sapele veneer looks quite prominent on the website. Is this true "in real life"? There are no photos of the maple of cherry veneer. Any comments on those?

Thanks very much,

Dave

Dave,

None of the Sapphire series have been around for enough "time" to know how they will age. I used the same Osmo oil finish on a maple rack. After about 20 years the stands have taken on a yellow hue. But that is on very pale maple. Maybe the wood aged and not the finish.  :dunno:

I do not know about the other woods but if you get walnut be sure to ask for brown grill cloth. The combination is beautiful.

Good luck.

Thanks Don. In speaking with Clayton, he mentioned that the walnut veneer was by far the most popular so I ordered the walnut. I have a windowless basement listening room so hopefully by keeping sunlight off of them they will keep close to their original look, which I love.

That is a really interesting thought about brown grilles. What are the chance you have a photo you could share, even if it isn't the M3S?

Thanks,

Dave
