Recommendation please
« on: 19 Jul 2020, 02:04 am »
New member asking the following question:

Cannot which of two speakers to choose from: Bryston Mini A or Mini T. My room is 13 x 16ft.
I play mostly classical and jazz. The amplifier would be a Bryston B135.

Any recommendations?

Hi

Do you have a preference for a Stand mounted speaker rather than a Floor mount?

Yes I would prefer  stand mounted speakers.
As an aside, is there a DAC card option for a B135 that would accept USB?
Thanks

Hi depoc

No the DAC will only accept Optical or COAX.

So coming back to my earlier topic....Bryston Mini A versus Mini T.
Is there an appreciable difference between them if music is played and low to medium levels?

And would you know if the onboard DAC for a B135 would be of comparable quality than the one commonly found in streamers?

Thanks

HI

The Mini T is really a different performance level than the Mini A.  So I would assume your decision would be based more on room size, levels you play at and budget. Small speakers like the Mini A are great at presenting a sound stage outside the speakers itself and will not excite the low bass room nodes that a larger speaker like the Mini T is capable of.

The DAC in the B135 is the same quality as out outboard units so much superior to most streaming style DAC's.

James

Is there a Dealer in Montreal that carries either the Mini A or T that I could listen to?

Thanks

I have both pairs of speakers

Use the Mini A speakers with a B60 integrated and an FM tuner for sound. It's in the bedroom, and does a very nice job on FMs 24/7 classical selections at a moderate volume.

I'll use the Mini T speakers with a B1235 integrated in my office / den where I can jack up the volume to decent hearing levels  - - again, using a classical FM station for music.

I temporarily placed the Mini Ts in my primary system form a break-in (BCD-3 spinner, BP17c preamp, 4Bcubed amp.)
I'm truly impressed with those speakers. "Mini sound?" Nah! Down to the mid to lower 30s bass and wonderfully clear highs.

Hope this helps

George
