Hello everyone. Does the USB input on the bda-2 have all the same advantages as the buc-1.

Brian

Hi Brian

Yes they are the same.

Will the coax output travel 10 meters to an SP3 without degradation?

Hi Folks,

I thought that my system sounded quite good playing directly to my PS Audio DAC either from my laptop via a direct ethernet connection or the BDP-1.

When I inserted the BUC-1 between the laptop and DAC I was astounded as to the improvement in the sound quality. It became more tranparent with a wider soundstage, instruments sounding more natural and generally a more precise presentation.

FROM OUR FRENCH DISTRIBUTOR:
Cheers & later,
Philippe

Hi James,

Here's a comment from a freshly happy french BUC1 customer: comment sent to our "certified dealer" in Paris, Mr. Jorge, LINK HD ...:-)

"A few months ago, I decided to venture into digital music. I undertook market research and found the Bryston BUC1.

The product was not yet on the market, but the technical specifications and the price were very interesting and encouraged me to order one. Once received, I immediately connected (no brain) and let it run for 24 hours before listening. Listening recordings at red -book format are perfect. Differences in the quality of the recordings are clearly audible, and when the recording is good, this is really good!

But most surprising is coming up with the master’s formats, the BUC1 is breathtaking. I downloaded Ella Fitzgerald Sings George and Ira Gershwin Song Book (24 /192) and the last Pat Metheny Unity (24/ 96) the listening is just beautiful: soft, detailed, warm and accurate.

The Bryston BUC 1 is a device which performs its role: it is the perfect interface between a PC and a DAC. Without no doubt absolutely recommendable."

A question: I own a BDA-2 (with a BDP-2). If I want to add a laptop like alternative digital source, the BUC-1 has an utility or BDA-2 (with his asynchronous usb imput) don't need it?

Hi

If you have the BDA-2 you do not need the BUC-1.

So here is the dumb question for the day   With the BUC-1 plugged up to my macbook pro and going into my DAC of choice ... will the audio performance be similar to say the BDP-1 going into same DAC? DAC for now is a Musical Fidelity MDAC1

Thanks

George

Hi George,

It would be most of the way there because the BUC-1 takes over and handles all the processing side of the digital file but the computer laptop source still has some issues in our opinion that the BDP products eliminate from the front end of the system.

It seems very tempting to buy a cheap laptop and connect it to the BUC-1 as an avenue to lower cost 24/192 digital audio file playback. Are there any minimum hardware requirements that must be met when using a budget laptop (i.e. Windows Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, etc.) with the BUC-1? Is any caution advised? Much thanks.

=====================

Regarding the upcoming release of Windows 10, will the current drivers available for the BUC-1 support the new OS, or will new drivers be released by Bryston?

James,

A couple of questions on the BUC-1.   I realize this unit is for 2-channel music reproduction but wonder if in addition to PCM audio streams whether it will also allow Dolby Digital and DTS streams to pass thru it from a USB computer source.

Also can you confirm that the trigger jack on the back is a 12-volt on/off trigger as the other Bryston devices have?   Ie. it can be turned on from an SP3 remotely as well?

Thanks.

Got my BUC-1 two days ago and I have to say it really does a wonderful job... really expanded the depth and width of the soundstage and just made things sound clearer. I was shocked though how heavy such a little box could be!  :D I have paired it with a Mark Levinson No360S using Anaconda AES cable and am enjoying my digital files in a way I never thought I could. Got serial number 0000003 and was like darn it ... would have been cool to get 0000001 but I'm guessing that one was spoken for a while ago! Anyway ... great product and I look forward to it sounding even better after an extended break in. Thanks guys ... best $800 I ever spent!

Hi Folks,

Have a PDF of another review on the BUC-1 interface in a French Magazine - if anyone wants a copy please email me - jamestanner@bryston.com

james

English translation of conclusion:

"The sound is of great transparence and with exceptional neutrality. The Bryston BUC1 does not add nor hide anything to music reproduction".

Verdict:

I believe that a great majority of the DAC's available on the market that do not have a USB connection will benefit from this new Bryston apparatus. You will gain in all aspects, which is the least to say,, and you will have
found the solution for your pieces of music stored in your computer's hardware. I loved the exemplary sound of the Bryston USB BUC-1, the un-reproachable construction, the setup simplicity, the unobtrusive aspect, and the
reasonable price point.

I disliked.... well, not much to say on this aspect..!!
