Robert Hartley Review at RMAF 2011

Greatest Bargain:

The $3000 FET Valve 400R power amplifier from Audio by Van Alstine. With a tube input stage, regulated supplies to the output MOSFETs, and 200Wpc on tap, the 400R could be a giant killer. It sounded great driving Salk Song Tower speakers.

Robert Harley himself says: "Multiple regulation stages help isolate circuits from each other.  Different audio circuits can interact with each other through a common regulation stage, degrading performance....Designers agree: the more regulation stages, the better" (The Complete Guide to High-End Audio [Second Edition, 1998] p. 485).  No wonder he likes the 400R/600R! :thumb:

Anyone know of any reviews, comments, or even noticing the new FET-Valve preamp and DAC?

No suprise to me. Van Alstine has been producing fine product for quite some time. A living legend in Audio in my book. Congrats.
