Title: 1.7i s Buzz
Post by: BikeFi10 on 10 Aug 2022, 02:01 pm
I just noticed a slight buzz at high volume on the back of one of my 1.7i s. The bass and treble were boosted high at the request of my wife. Go figure, dont most spouses say turn it down. Shes use to my old Kilpsch horned, ported towers.
Anyway, has anyone done diy repair on Magnepans?
The buzz seems to be in a small area about mid high to the back right.
Thanks

When my 1.5s developed a buzz I was able to spot the region where the metal had pulled away from the membrane. Pusing on it would solve the problem for a couple of weeks. A little spray adhesive might do it, or a bit of light strong tape. Magnepan may have better suggestions on materials.

I hate working with glue as I'm too much of a slob.
Have you tried shining a powerful flashlight through there to see if the foil is delaminating?

The buzz went away after I backed off on base and I havent listened since then.
If problem comes back Ill try the flashlight inspection. I dread pulling the sock off if I need to access it.
Yes, good idea to check with Magnepan if I need repair items.

They actually have repair kits you can buy and I do think you can buy separate items like the glue.
