Cartridge repair & re-tipping recommendation
« on: 4 Jul 2019, 09:57 am »
I just had Steve Leung at VAS Audio replace an aging microridge aluminum stylus on my Dynavector 20x2 low output cartridge. He did a phenomenal job replacing the stylus and the cartridge sounds better than new. The turn around time was 2 1/2 weeks.

Steve is extremely meticulous and his prices are very reasonable.

If you have an aging cartridge, please consider giving Steve a call. Here is a link for additional information: https://vasnyinc.com/repair-service/

What cantilever did you get, what stylus, and what were the cost?  I've got Denon that needs some help.

This is a follow up to recommend VAS Audio for retipping services.  Steve Leung installed cantilevers and microridge styli on a Sumiko Blackbird and a Dynavector 20x2L and did a fine job on both.  Price was very reasonable and the turnaround much quicker than some other services.
Steve also straightened a twisted cantilever on a Denon102 mono cartridge.  It now looks perfect.   :thumb:

Glad all worked out and good to know where to go besides Soundsmith. Curious as to cost. Thank you. I'm sitting with a Benz, Linn and Goldnote in need.

Any reason his prices can't be posted publicly?      :dunno:

I mean, Soundsmith re-tip prices are well known and discussed on audio boards all the time.

Only because I had work done on three cartridges, and received a discount that was not on the price list.  Negotiations are individual, and the next guy might get a better deal or a worse one.

Gotcha.  Thanks.

Any way you can enlighten us to the non-discounted price for the work?  It's helpful even if it's approximate.

I'm surprised that prices weren't posted at his web site.  Options included Al cantilever with micro ridge stylus, line contact with boron? or sapphire?, and another that I don't remember... because I wanted the micro ridge stylus.  Probably would have chosen a sapphire cantilever, but it wasn't an option- could have saved a few bucks with the boron/line contact.  Al cantilever + microridge stylus was $300, and straightening the Denon DL102 was $20.  For the most part, prices were similar to Peter's, but turnaround was quicker.  And Peter likes line contact, and as I said, I like microridge.
