Av123 X-LS "Parts is Parts"
« on: 15 May 2020, 01:15 pm »
I recently completed a "Retro Fit" build of the X-LS Encore. I converted an old pair of av123 x-ls classic to the Encore. I am thrilled with the speakers and they fit my current needs perfectly. So with my retro fit, I took out and replaced the Original tweeters and the crossovers.

I can't bring myself to throw them out. I wonder about e-baying the parts but I have no clue about the inductor values. They do not seem to be marked. The same is true of the tweeters. There do not appear to be any markings on them either.  I am looking for help on identifying them and would appreciate any warnings about reusing the parts if that applies? Are there potential problems reusing any of these parts?

I don't understand.  Why would you replace the tweeter that this speaker was designed around?  You have posted in the GR-Research circle, so I'll let Danny respond, since he is the designer.  In the meantime, I've sent you a PM with an offer for the crossover and tweeters.

Greetings,

Please be aware that the tweeter in the original av123 X-LS is different than the encore edition. The crossover is also completely different from the Encore. If you read up on the web site about the history of the speaker you will see that the tweeter was replaced in the encore to a much better tweeter. As result of that change the crossover was modified as well.

Danny is very helpful and responsive on such things and he may ultimately be the one who can give guidance, but given how busy he is, I did not want to burden him with the question.

I think it was unclear that you went from X-LS to X-LS Encore based on Danny's guidance. Seems like you may find a buyer here though for some or all of the parts.

OK, now I understand what you're doing.  I think I know the history of your tweeter, but don't want to speculate on Danny's circle.  I think it would be safe to say that it's closely related to the older GR-Research T1 or T2 tweeter, of which there is still some info out there if you look for it.  Good tweeter, smooth, easy to work with for DIY types.  Danny will eventually chime it with real information

According to the Av123 owner's manual, these are 8 ohms But that is not what they measured on my multi meter.

Here is the Classic Individual drviers measurements from Danny

If someone were to buy Skilly's classic tweeters and crossovers then all they would need to build out a pair of X-LS Classics is a pair of M-165 woofers.

8 ohms is the average. The DCR should dip to about 6.5 ohms.

Thanks Danny for the shout out.

I am not sure if the buyer was a reader, but I did sell them all to one single buyer for some nice coin.

I am saving up for the LGK 2.0. Since we have no clue when it is coming I should have plenty of time to save up.
