Two Rooms
« on: 25 Jan 2012, 05:50 pm »

I recently had to move my beloved V1's to a new room set up as I moved houses.
The first room dimensions were 13.5 X 28' with the speakers about 45" off the front wall.
The second room is approx 25' X 25' with the speakers sitting about halfway into the room. This means that there is 12.5 ft behind the speaker before the sound wave hits the front wall.
The geometry of speakers and chair is the same and the equipment is the same.
The difference in sound quality between the 2 rooms is hard to imagine. Allowing the V's ample space to breath in the big room gives an idea of what these speakers are really capable of.
Since moving I have been on a crazy round of audiophile nervosa upgrades, :duh:
but nothing has come even remotely close to the change wrought by  the room.
It has been a happy eye opener. :icon_lol:

I was wondering what your new room looked like.....very nice!
Wish I had a bit more room here, but will have to make do... 8)

Nice to see another Albertan posting their V-1 experiences.

Yes Sir,

There is nothing like having space behind your speakers.  :thumb:

Hi Bruce:

You have made a discovery that few audio geeks make. Having a large area behind the speakers turns a good system into magic. Works with regular box speakers as well. I like what I see happening there very much and know the thrill you are having. I do the same thing.

I would much rather have good gear properly set up in a great room - with lots of space around and behind the speakers - than a small room with poor setup and stunning gear.

Have fun. I am sure you will.

Thanks Guys.

I am lucky to have the room to put the speakers where they are.
Really happy with the setup the way it is at the moment.
PDR your room looks awesome. I'll have to drop by one day if you will allow.
Rocket is that a pair of Newform Research ribbons?

Cheers

Newform 645s. yep. Long gone now.

Funny story. People would come over and try and figure out what in the world was going on. One fellow thought the ribbon section was some sort of strobe, disco, light array. I said sure, and a disco balls comes down from the ceiling when the actions really builds.
