Please explain. 300W vs. 1000!!?
« on: 6 Apr 2020, 07:12 am »
Ok I’m messin w my audio, Kismets are still breaking in, they have been on and playing for 3 weeks or so.

Swapped in my emotiva 1000W monos.

Please explain how 300w from the Kismets can sound grittier, clearer, less, fatiguing, than a 1000W mono pair?

I’m at a loss here.

1000w. Vs.   300W is night and day difference:92.

Help me out.
How does a 5X less watt rating sound better and fuller than a higher watt rated amp.

Emotiva 1000w monos, etc  get about owned by a pair of 200w monos?

1000 watts versus 300 watts = 5 dB more output, roughly half again as loud (if your speakers/your ears can handle it).

The other attributes mentioned are matters of superior design that can be expected from the Kismets.

Do you have heard the moto:
"If the first watt sucks, why continue?" Steve Deckert
If no I sorry inform you the more power an amplifier has, the less sound quality it have.
Hi-Fi home audio dont need power it need quality.

First off if the only change was the amp.. The amount of power any amp is producing with all the ther equipment the same , is going to BE the same.
(for purists true the impedance etc matters,, but for this comment we shall ignore those minor differences OK)
SO really the amps are basically producing the same amount of power since you are not listening at twice the SPL with the bigger amp?? (maybe? LOL)
So the only actual difference is the quality of the circuit design, the amps differences in power supply philosophy and implementation, and the quality of the parts.. caps resistors. circuit boards..
One other point might have been of he lower power amp was straining to do the job..But usually 300 watts is enough unless you are trying to go deaf.. or playing in a huge sized room.
So the differences HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH IT BEING 300 or 1000 watts.

Quality NOT quantity. Just that simple. Better is better.

Agreed. Kinda like selling cars by the pound. It's a number, and without more pertinent info, too often it's assumed that more is better. And marketing takes advantage of that perception by publishing (often) meaningless specifications.

This reminds when I lived in Tucson a gazillion years ago. I was wandering through a flea market and saw a boombox (that probably had a pair of 5" speakers) with a tag that said it had 1000 watts of power!!!  :duh:
