AKSA sound - variance?
« on: 17 Apr 2003, 12:23 pm »
Has anyone had the chance to listen to a fairly large population of AKSAs built by different persons or built up using different transformers, hookup wire, etc?

Since Hugh only gives us guideline for any parts off the PCB, I'm wondering how close my AKSA 55N would sound to another, given that I use x'fomer X, wire Y and plugs from Z, compared to someone who chose a different set? Even better would be a knowledge base on the choice of these components, provided that the comments provided are based on comparisons, ie. not an absolute statement like, "silver plated teflon hookup is bright and grainy". Harsh and grainy compared to ???.

I've listened to 4 AKSAs (strictly speaking 5, since one pair were monoblocks), but only 2 on the same system (one 100, one 55), so any 'differences' that I think I've heard are probably badly affected by room, cables, power and other components. Yes, they all exhibit broadly similar sound, but how similar are they, really? Just curious. :?
