VDA•1 with cd-rom drive

Hello. I am trying to connect external computer cd-rom drive to VDA•1. (Just to see if it would sound better than my sony player) :)
I connected spdif from cd-rom drive directly to VDA•1, but it did't work. Even blue led wouldn't come on. Although this drive works fine when connected to digital input of cheap sony receiver. Is computer cd-rom drive use different kind of digital signal then  standard audio player?

I'm not that familiar with CD Rom drives, but if it outputs valid SPDIF...it will work.

Thanks. It was loose cable from drive to rca jack.
