Trafomatic Experience Head One
« on: 30 Dec 2008, 04:10 am »
Just a quick post to thank Boris for providing a Trafomatic Experience Head One for my room at CES.  I am going to be demoing the differences between my different models of USB cables with a headphone setup and Boris was kind enough to provide the headamp for the system:

http://www.trafomaticaudio.com/experience_head_one.php

I, personally, own many headamps and, thus far, this Trafomatic is right up there with my best.  And, I only have about 5 hours on it, so I expect it to improve quite a bit over the next few days.

In any event, I wanted to give Boris a "plug" and encourage those of you who are into headphones to not overlook this gem.

FWIW--I will be in room 31-119 at the Venetian if anyone wants to come by and hear the amp in action.  I'll have some Ultrasone ED9's and assorted Sennheiser's to listen to as well.

Peace,

Lee

Thank you Lee, that is very kind of you!

You'll have a nice collection of gear and cables in the room (http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=63188.0), I'm sure CES will turn out to be a success for you.

Good luck and please bring us some pictures back!

You are most welcome.  I took some pictures, but I forgot to bring my memory card reader, duh!  I will go grab one tonight or tomorrow evening and post the pics.

The more I use the Head One, the more I like it.  It drives my Beyer's, Sennheiser's and Ultrasone ED9's with equal aplomb.  Three VERY different sounding cans, so that is a testament to how good this little amp is.

You won't be getting this amp back!  Now, to find some "extra" money to pay you for it...    :o

Well, I am sitting here playing some e-mail catch up while I wait for the show to start in a little under two hours.  Back to work.

Peace,

Lee

Some pics from CES:

Folks, this is one great sounding amp.  I like it more than almost any other head amp I have...and I have seven others.

Thanks for the loan, Boris.  I need to keep it!   :thumb:

I'm not surprised to hear that, Lee.

I have logged many hours with Boris' el-34 integrated and it too is excellent.

Boris is a great guy who not only  produces great performing, reliable and reasonably priced gear, but he is very user friendly as well.   I think his accolades and recognition are long overdue.

Best of luck, Boris....sweet looking lil amp!   :thumb:

Robin,

Pretty much everything but the dimensions and pricing are there, and those are the typical deal maker/breakers for me :D.

Maybe if you emailed or PM'd Boris with your requests? Maybe if/when you find out, you'll post them? :D

Cheers,

$1250. I'll measure it today when I finally make it over to the shop and post the results.

I cryo'd the tubes for it and am burning them back in now.  Nice improvement.

I am very fond of this little amp.   :thumb:

Peace,

Lee

Edit--Adjusted price to $1250 to reflect correct MSRP.

Thanks, Lee.

That will actually fit -- not by much, but enough.

Thanks again,

Jim

Thanks Lee  :thumb:

I spent last couple of days in our Capital, attending a conference.... good to have friends helping out!  :D

By the way - did you have a chance to cryo the tubes?

Best,
Boris

I did.  They have about 50 hours on them now since cryo.  To my ears, a nice improvement so far.

Going to leave the amp 24/7 for the next few days to get some hours on the tubes again.  IME, after cryo, small tubes really start to come into their own after about 100-150 hours.

Peace,

Lee

Hi Boris,

So, is the price that Lee gave correct?

Those OPTs look interesting, can you tell me what the primary impedance and current ratings are, and whether you sell them separately?  I've got another, very different type of headamp project that I need some OPTs for.

Thanks,

Jim

Hi Jim,

As I explained in the PM... list price is $1250, but I can do a little better. As for the transformer, Trafomatic specializes in custom design, and they can build to your spec.
