Title: bryston BDP-1, Error :-(, please help.
Post by: malpa on 24 Jun 2019, 07:44 am
hi Everyone.
i have BDP-1, very early model and owned it for some years already, always was happy with it and never run in to any problem with it.
i never updated software on it since i bought it, i kept the original first software because i was happy with it as it was, never felt like i need to upgrade.
lately i have moved home and had no time for music and etc.,  My bdp-1 was unplugged/unused for a month or so.
finally i got time to reconnect my system and to my surprise the BDP-1 keeps showing error 09 everytime  i power it on.
after power ON,...the hard drive starts spinning and ethernet cable socket keeps flashing and than after few minutes it goes in to Error 09 mode and gets silent/frozen kind of thing.
i googled for that error and tried all tricks suggested, reconnected the cable inside and yesterday i flashed the CF card with Win32 and flashed a new software to CF and followed every step suggested by brystons's pdf file.
...and still get Error 09,....:-(, i did try that at lest 6 times and always get 09 error.
im stuck, dont know what to do,...any suggestions ?, please help me with it, thank you.

Hi,

Disconnect the hard drive before you turn the bop 1 on.  I have a similar issue as the unit doesn't seem to like the hard drive connected during the loading of the BDP1.

Hope this help.

Cheers Rod

Hi malpa

Yes the BDP-1 does not have much current capability (whereas the BDP2 and 3 has plenty).  So if the hard-drive is asking for a lot of current on startup that will take away the power need for the BDP-1 to start.

We've been noticing some mainboard failures on the really early units over the last year or so, some times its just the coin cell battery on the mainboard and replacing its fixes other times the mainboard requires replacing.  Your welcome to try the battery I think its a CR2032, its written on the battery itself and we bought a large batch of mainboards so that we can continue to service them for a while longer.  If the battery doesn't fix the issue (keep in mind you need to power it on and off a couple times, leaving about ten minutes off inbetween tries) you should get in contact with us directly to have the system serviced.
