I need to invest in a good light therapy lamp for my wife. There is a lot of conflicting information out there with regard to the spectrum needed, how much brightness, wild variances in pricing for things that look similar, etc. Any recommendations/personal experiences would be greatly appreciated. Would prefer something that can be used full time while working at a PC rather than something that one needs to just sit in front of specifically and not doing other things (very Type A personality...)
Thanks in advance.

I am using a lamp called "Daylight" from Uplift Technologies that I bought from e-bay for around $100. It's 10,000 Lux, comes with a floor/table stand, 2 levels of brightness, and is small enough to place on my desk. 20 minutes in the morning while I checked my e-mail made a positive impact in my mood last winter.
Another thing to check out is Vitamin D supplementation, which I find helps SAD as well (for me).

I have a Sun Touch Plus on my home office desk. I turn it on in the morning when I am doing my morning e-mail and surfing. It has a built in timer and air purifier.

Also, 5000 iu of Vitamin D3 per day will have a very positive effect on SAD.

Second both recommendations.

Thanks for the recommendations. The Daylight (uplift) looks like a winner. Will try the Vitamin D also.
Need to check out the negative Ion thing a little more.

I use the Saddelite (http://www.amazon.com/SADelite-Light-Therapy-Desk-Lamp/dp/B000NVW0YK/ref=pd_sbs_hpc_1) which delivers 10,000 lux. It is more expensive but could probably withstand a nuclear blast and uses two tubes instead of three. Tubes are fairly pricey.

Will check that one out too. Thanks

I also have a "sunrise simulator". Basically an alarm clock that gradually lights up in the morning, simulating sunrise. Looks dumb, sounds dumb but I really like it and find it helps a lot getting up at 6 am in the winter. My wife really dislikes it though so I haven't power it up yet. I will soon though... I have this one (http://www.amazon.com/BioBrite-Sunrise-Clock-Advanced-Charcoal/dp/B00196LFIU/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1290345370&sr=8-4=)

This is what my primary care doctor uses. If I was still working and getting up early I would have tried it. :D

Just take 1000IU of good vitamin D (such as cod liver oil pill) every morning and you will not get SAD.
I have lived in Oregon and Portland for 25 years, so I know gray skies.
