Danny, would you accept $25 from everyone who wanted to audition a DAC-60, and if you got enough participants to cover your cost, you could start an audition tour?

$25 for a 7 day audition. Each auditioner must ship it to the next.

If not you, maybe Sonicraft would be willing to send a modded unit out.

Danny
Any indication when the DAC 60 with USB input might become available?
Thanks
Ian

No indication on that yet.

Jerry, After Christmas I will work on getting a modded DAC-60 to send around on tour.

Anyone Hear the modded units yet??

This dac has got me curious enough to delay an order for an Ack. Has anyone actually heard any of these models yet.  Im particularly interested in an all out modded unit.

Wonder if danny is sending one out on a demo tour

I did order an extra DAC-60 a few weeks ago to be modded out so it can be sent around as a demo unit. It might be a little while until I send it out though. I am going to use it for a capacitor comparison on the 11th of Feb. I am adding a selector switch that will allow selecting between different output caps.

I loved my Ack dAck and really like Chris Own (nice guy), but an upgraded DAC-60 is in a completely different league. In fact I preferred all of the Lite DAC's over my Ack dAck including the $175. DAC-AH.

You guys should get to see some customer feedback on these soon. I sold a lot of them already. I think Sonic Craft has 5 DAC-60's in the house right now for mods too. They will be going out soon.

I assume Gongos is referring to the USB input variant (yes Gongos?).

In any event Danny, I and quite a few others I would imagine are keen to hear when the USB input variant might be available?

One of the five DAC-60's at Sonic Craft is mine - can't wait to get it.

Most(all?) of the changes from Sonic Craft are replacing the existing capacitors with higher 'Audio' quality, including BlackGate and SoniCap.

My current DAC is a Perpetual P-3a w/ModWright Level II mods.  I'll be comparing this against the DAC-60 when I get it.

I don't know how good of a review I'll be able to give, but I'll try.

Anyone from the Chicagoland area interested in hearing it let me know.

I was hoping there would be a version with a i2s input.

I bought a LITE DAC68 3 weeks ago. I believe this is a model up from the DAC60. My question to DAC60 users is, do any of you hear a slightly thin or hollow sounding mid-range in your DAC60?

My DAC68 produces mids that are open and detailed but lacking in body and richness. I feel the upper mids are slightly exaggerated while the lower mids are lacking and sounds slightly diffuse. Even the budget JVC DVD player I use as transport has more solid sounding mids.

I'm debating whether it's worthwhile to send the DAC68 to be modded, as it may not help the mids.

Appreciate your input.

I haven't see anything on the new DAC-68 yet. It looked like it was going to implement an up-sampler to 192kHz.

I have not been found of up-sampling so far.

I have not found the DAC-60 to sound this way at all. It has been quite the opposite.

Is the DAC-AH (the $175 one) a NOS dac?

Yes, the dac-ah uses the tda1543 dac chip, which is NOS.

Yes, the DAC68 does upsample to 192khz. I agree that this may well be the cause of the thin sounding mids.

I'll consider getting a DAC60 to compare. Thanks.

I've seen pics of the DAC 60 with a black chassis, are the DAC 60's available through you with this option?

I asked them about the Black chassis. They said no Black chassis for that model at this time.
