What could be my problem?
« on: 25 Aug 2022, 04:36 am »
No change to my preamp (Parasound 7) and amps (Extreme Monos).  And no maintenance have been done to the monos for 19 1/2 years.

Lately I found myself kept having to turn up the volume knob on the preamp to obtain the same sound level---from 65db to 67db to 70db to 75db.

Is this an indication that my amps running out of juice?

19 1/2 years really?  Amps might need to have caps replaced.

Something else in the chain have variable volume control (DAC w/pre-out option), software-adjusted volume (DSP under ROON or similar) or are you listening a lot more to hi-rez sources (lower gain levels)?

When's the last time you had your hearing checked?

Why not save some time and effort, call Klaus. He will know what the problem is and how to fix it.

Maybe Klaus would be happy to help out but why assume it's his equipment that has an issue?

Why not start with Klaus? He knows the equipment better than anyone. Likely that the OP knows about other volume controls on his own equipment and software.

Call Klaus. After nearly 20 years my $.02 is you need new caps. It’ll be a great time to do any upgrades as well while they’re in the masters hands. Only downside, I’d suggest making sure you have a back up amp if you listen to music with any regularity as you won’t see your amps for a while. That’s not a knock on Klaus, just the reality of a very busy guy with only two hands.

Things may have changed, but best time to call is after 8pm Klaus’ time.
