Hello All
« on: 20 Mar 2017, 11:32 pm »
Hello all,
My name is Ian.
I began my journey as an audiophile a while ago - limited only by available funds.
I have been on a journey to find and obtain the best vinyl pressed for the ManCave.
I have two systems at present. A Marantz based audiovisual for the cinema and an Anthem based for my ManCave
My current systems are:
Cinema
Marantz AV8801 PreAmp/MM8077
Marantz UD 7007 Blu-ray with Elac
ManCave
Anthem D2V Preamp/A5
Elac speakers
I use two turntables
1. reengineered technics turntable SL-1210M5G with ortofon 30 cartridge
2. Pink Triangle Tarantela turntable - cartridge unbranded - (I purchased secondhand).
I am on a search be the best MC cartridge I can afford to replace it.
Any recommendations will be gratefully received. I will let you know how I get on. Currently I am considering one of the following:
audio-technica at150,
Miyajima Labs Madake or
Kiseki Purpleheart.
Anyway, I am looking forward to the site and what it offers :)

Ian,

Looks as though you're building nice systems.

I recently bought the Ortofon MC-3 Turbo Moving Coil cartridge that works great with any moving magnet preamp (high output). It's has a Nude Fine Line stylus tip and I just recently got mine broke in and it sounds and tracks great through some LPs that gave me issues in the past. I found mine new on eBay for $299 (normally retails around $320). I was using a Audio-Technica AT440MLa, which did a fine job, but this Ortofon has a much better balanced and detailed sound without the harshness from the AT440Mla that many complained about.
