Title: 10X5 into MM phono stage?
Post by: Pseudocarp on 17 Aug 2013, 06:35 pm
Just wondering whether the phono stage in my Roksan Kandy K2 will support a DV 10X5 given it's higher voltage output?

Any input would be really appreciated

Thanks

The Dyna 10X5 is a HOMC, so any MM phono stage should be fine.

Of course the best match for the Dyna or the best match for that phonostage is another question...

But I do think that Dyna and the WTA is a great combo.

Indeed, I'll be looking to get a separate phono stage when funds (and the wife) allow

You can't assume"any" mm phono stage will work. High output or not, there are different gain levels with mm phono stages.  Just start looking at specs and you'll see what I mean. I've heard many that didn't have enough for the 10x5.  Practical usage over assumptions any day.

Indeed. I will defer to threadkiller. My response was based largely on assumptions about HOMC carts and their output.

That's okay! You didn't know. It's just a matter of using it and knowing.
I can think of 4 phono stages that don't do it justice and 4 that do just from years of hearing it in friends systems. It is, after all, one of the all time "affordable" cartridges out there.
Heavens forbid my early days of Sumiko blue points, etc.  I feel sorry for these people that see the brightly colored ads for those Ortofons and think they're musical.  Egads! Makes me shiver to think of it.
