Hyper Elipitical or Shibata?
« on: 31 Jan 2008, 02:00 am »
I have the chance for about the same dough to buy either a
"Hyper Eliptical" diamond for my Ortofon OM cart...

But,  I can find NO ONE who has tried this LPGear version of the "OM30" stylus.   The "real" Ortofon verison of the OM30 diamond is 55 dollars more, and is said to be a fine line, not "hyper eliptical"...

Or

I can get the LPGear version of an AT95 cart, but with a Shibata diamond:

Which does have fans on the net.  I can find very pleased owners of this cart and it got a very positive review at a review site...

Whatchathink I should do???

Remember - the AT440MLa I tried hummed on all three of my tables...the HK T55C, HK T25 and Technics SL-Q2.

The Ortofon cart I have now is known not to hum on any of the three, nor does another AT cart I have, nor does an old Shure Cart.

The Ortofon is also known to be a perfect match up for the Ultra Low Mass arm on my favorite table (the HK T55C).

Buy one of these?  Or something else?  (( Not going to get another
AT-440MLa ))

A little scared of Grado - afraid it will also Hum...

Taking all opinions...please.
