Title: micro rendu set up issues
Post by: BCRich1 on 11 Jun 2016, 03:09 pm
Hi all,

Just installed in my system, I can see on my network and can configure the device. However it does not see my Dac. It is a Auralic Vega, has the latest Firmware.
If I go to Dac Diagnostics I see the following error at the bottom of the page:

Error in alsa-capabilities (v0.9.1): aplay did not find any soundcard.

Appreciate any insight.

Thanks....Mike

Stupid question I'm sure, but is the Vega powered on?

Best,
Ed

Hi Ed,
Yes it is. I even tried an Oppo BDP-105. Different USB Cables etc. I'm at a loss.
Bummed!

What software are you using to play music?

Are you selecting the correct output on the microRendu?

I used my Vega with Roon and JRiver successfully.

Mike, check out the forum at http://www.computeraudiophile.com/f26-sonore-sponsored/sonore-microrendu-27389/ there are loads of other people who have had similar issues installing the Micro Rendu and the solutions to the problems are explained in detail

Hi George,
Using Roon in conjunction with a Mac Mini.

Thanks for the link MTT, I'll check it out.

Any reason why I can't send Jesus a personal message? Comes back as blocked.

So does Roon see the microRendu?

Thought it did, but not so sure now. Is it the Sonic Stream option?

My question was really nswered on the other thread.

I don't believe so.

Under settings, click on the audio tab and you should see an entry for Sonore microRendu.

It should show an IP address for the microRendu, as well as what zone it is associated with.

I can't do a screen shot right now, but hopefully this will help.

Based on that I'm gonna say Roon does not see it, I also notice on the Network Led indicators of the mR the only one lit up is the yellow one.  Doesn't make sense, I can see it on my network and can ping it.

What happens if you reboot the mR and also restart Roon?

From where are you pinging the mR - the Mac Mini?

You might need to send Jesus an email - I'll send you a PM.

Can you ping the mR from the Roon server?

Maybe you have a permissions or firewall issue.

So, first issue resolved. Roon sees the mR, the mR sees my Auralic Vega (Updated Firmware). No Audio however.
I am not running Roon Server so I don't know if that is my issue. I have Roon set up on my MacMini and my Library is on a FireWire connected Hard Drive on the same Mac Mini. No issue running Roon/Tidal, HQ Player via Roon, all good. With the mR in line if I try to stream Tidal I get a message - Tidal: A networking or connectivity problem is interfering with Tidal playback. If I try to play a file from my library I get -
Roon:  An Audio File is loading slowly. This may indicate a performance or hardware problem.
Already spent two evenings trying to figure things out.
Tried isolating and limiting devices on the network to the point where I had just the mR and my Mac Mini connected and still a problem.
At a loss, frustrated too cause I do Custom Audio Video for a living and I can usually figure this stuff out.
Thanks in advance for a possible solution.
Mike

I would have bought a Micro Rendu when they first came out but it became clear pretty quickly that your average ordinary guy without a programming background is not going to be able to set one up without help. I keep hearing how simple and intuitive it is to set the device up in two minutes, but then I see there are over 100 pages of questions from new users in the Computer Audiophile thread.

I would gladly pay an extra charge to have a technician set it up upon delivery, someone who could determine and implement the optimum implementation for my system because I think the bang for the buck is amazing with this product.

I'm pretty sure in most setups it's plug and play.

One of the advantages of buying devices from Sonore is the support they give.

If you have any issues, contact Jesus by email and he will even (if necessary) log on to your system remotely and fix problems.

The install is pretty simple and straightforward and an ordinary person who has already implemented computer based audio shouldn't need help.  Frankly, I thought it was easier than setting up JRiver.

Setup is very simple.  Even when issues have popped up those people are up and running quickly.

I kinda feel there is something wrong with the device then. Don't know for sure though.
Like I said Roon can see it and it can see the Dac. Yellow led flickers continually, not sure what that is indicating. No green led on the other side of the Ethernet connection although I think it was lit for some time yesterday when I got home. This will be my third evening in a row to attempt to get things going.
Gonna try my laptop which is a PC, see how that goes.
Appreciate any feedback.
Thanks......Mike

What does Jesus say?

If you aren't, you should be working with him.

Looking back at one of your posts, you said you weren't running Roon server...where are you running Roon server?

My setup is:

PC running Roon Server -> microRendu -> LIO or Vega DAC

Hi George,
I have Roon Installed on my Mac Mini and use my iPad to control. What is the difference between Roon and Roon Server?
Sent Jesus an email yesterday, have not heard back yet. I'm sure he is very busy.
He was helpful with the first issue, there was a problem with the USB output, sent it back, they repaired and supposedly tested and sent it back.
With all the great feedback I was really excited about this, hope we can get resolved.
Do you know what the Green Led on the Network connection is supposed to mean?
Thanks....Mike

You need a Roon Server running somewhere on the network to play music.

You run Roon or the Roon client to acces the server.  This can be run on a PC, Mac, or iPad.

The green light is either power or connectivity.

Roon Server and Roon Core provide the same function. Only one can be authorized per license. Roon Server removes the graphical interface so it can run headless, taking less cpu resources. Otherwise they are the same and you just need one or the other. To make it simpler just run Roon Core on the Mini and connect to its local library, authorize it, and you should be fine. Your issue is not the microRendu, it's how to properly configure Roon. You might want to join their forum and ask for assistance there.

Thanks for clarifying the difference.  Already had Roon Core up and running on my Mac Mini and worked great, also had HQ Player integrated as well.
I now seems that my original problem is back again. I think the Green Led indicates a Dac connection.  The mR does not see the Dac and Roon does not see the mR.
I'm so not having fun!

Update: I was incorrect regarding the Ethernet Led indicators, plugged it back in the next morning and had both Led's but no Dac connection and no device in Roon.
It seems somehow I am managing to blow the USB output board. This is the second time this has happened.
Jesus has been awesome and agreed to repair it a second time.
I for the life of me can't figure out the cause.

Update:  :D - Listening via Roon as I type.
Big thanks to Jesus & Andrew for awesome support.

Thanks to AC members who chimed in offering their assistance.

The sound is really good via Roon, no comparison to any other devices I have yet. Giving it some break in time.

I did however try HQ Player Mode, big popping sound at the beginning of a track. That will be for another time.
Hope I can figure things out. I do like how HQP sounds via my Mac Mini. Have to see what's what.

* Get the same popping in Roon as well, it is at the beginning of an album or if I pause/play a track.

Very happy it is finally working.
