I only have a few hours on my V-cap Dock (under 40 hours right now) and right off the bat I can say that its sound is in a new league compared to the ALO iMod Superkind cable. It is hard to believe how much better it will sound with more burn-in, but even more surprising is how much better it sounds compared to the standard iMod dock cables with the BG caps. The V-caps are very, very fine sounding with the iMod! 

With the V-cap Dock, I am hearing more dimensionality, more tone and more texture to the sound. Cymbals have a more natural shimmer and vocals sound even more rich. I really hope that those who have the opportunity to listen to it get a chance to compare it to much more $$$ high-end CD players and/or external dacs. In terms of musicality, this is where it's at! 

Again, I have a lot more burn-in to put on this dock (but at least I can run it 24/7 on the linear power supply to speed up this process  ).

I also want to say that the build quality is really exceptional... what a solid (as in solid wood...no vaneer), gorgeous looking dock (mine is in Paduke wood. but there are other types of wood available such as cocobolo, ebony, maple, etc)! 







My wife wishes our furniture looked that good!

Great to hear.  I've been waiting for this announcement and will continue to watch as things develop on this.  Could end up being my Christmas present to myself (and earlier than that, I hope ).

ALO Audio is still working out the pricing (hopefully it will be posted within a week).  They are also working on a less expensive version that will still use the V-caps, but inside a small extruded aluminum enclosure (with hard-wired dock cable on one end, and RCA jacks and a mini-jack on the other end).  Contact Ken at ALO Audio for details.

More details will be coming soon, along with a 6moons review by Ryan Clarin of the Vcap Dock + iMod combo, AND a review of this combo by Jeff Dorgay of Tone Audio!  aa

I have had a chance to listen to the Vcap-Dock for about 2 weeks and can state  the following observations.  The VCap-Dock throws a taller, wider, and deeper soundstage.  Because of this each instrument occupies it's own distinct space in the sound stage, allowing the listener to both hear each instrument more clearly and how each instrument interacts with the whole.  It is both a more organic and more emotional presentation.  The greater dynamic range that the VCap-Dock removes a limitation that I wasn't even aware was present.
    IMHO the VCap-Dock carries the 5th Gen Imod further along the path to sonic bliss.  It is more of the same in a completely positive sense.  If you like or liked the sound of the previous Imod's, you will like the sound with the VCap-Dock even more.

Hi ZLS,

Thanks for posting your impressions of the ALO Vcap Dock!  I agree with your findings and have close to 200 hours on my Vcap Dock.  Just wait until you put the burn-in hours on it... it gets really good!
