Julie Wolf – Walk the Worn Out Floor … UGH!
Never heard of her before, but in my search for new music I stumbled upon this “jazz” CD. I purchased it based on samples (been fooled before) and reviews (all gushing and glowing). I am sorry I wasted my money on this. Julie has a pleasant enough voice, but she cannot sing (sustain a note without copping out to loud whispering). I have lots of CDs of people who cannot sing well and I love them. But in this case she keeps trying to sing songs clearly out of her bounds, especially jazz tunes. She cannot sing well, and seems to have no concept of jazz-style phrasing or rhythm. She plays piano well enough, striking no wrong notes, but again, has no jazz feel nor conveys any emotion in her playing.
There are some pop (some with a bluesy style) songs where she comes off well enough and should clearly stick to the pop genre. She is a plain, vanilla, performer with a pleasant voice and plays the correct notes on the piano, but should steer FAR clear of trying to perform any serious music, such as jazz. And if you wish to hear some jazz music, I recommend you look elsewhere.
