Back to the future
« on: 27 Aug 2022, 10:59 am »
Evening All,

I'm a long time Bryston/PMC user. My 6BST has started to misbehave and is blowing one of the the fuses on one of the channels. I read about the Back to the future program and then, disappointingly, realised it is only available to North Americans. Does anyone now if this will be opened up to the rest of the world at some point. I am happy to be a test case for France if it helps  :D I have a 6BST and a 4BSST to send.
Thanks

Mike

Hi Mike - nothing has been decided yet about expanding the BTTF program outside North America.

Its a piolet project currently to see how much interest there is and how to best handle the logistics.

So with this program, what qualifies as an old or vintage amp? Is it simply any amp that is past the original warranty? For example I don't have my 4B-SST C series in front of me but it's got to be approaching the 20 year mark. Would that qualify?

And the updates, is the program just a like for like replacement or are the older amps upgraded to newer series specs, for example my amp, would it receive parts essentially upgrading it internally to a SST2 or perhaps even a Cubed?

Hi Rod - this program is for amplifiers outside the warranty period.

If newer parts will work then we would replace the older parts - example would be output devices.

Is there an output device upgrade path for the 1999 ST series of amplifiers?

Thanks

Hi James,
I know it's still early stages of the new Back to the Future program, but will you be expanding the program to other units like Preamps etc...
Sorry if this question has already been asked. Didn't find anything in my search.

Its something to consider and we probably will.  I just have to go over what changes can we make in the parts and what the labour etc. will be? Cosmetics should not be an issue if people want a different faceplate colour.

PS - I just realized I spelt too words the 'Canadian' way!

As you should, but you spelt "too" instead of "two".  :)

Spelt:
A type of wheat (Triticum spelta syn. T. aestivum subsp. spelta) having a tough hull. It was widely cultivated in southwest Asia, the Near East, and Europe during the Bronze Age and is now grown chiefly in Europe.

No wonder you audiophiles can never agree on anything…

Terrible to correct someone's spelling with a misspelling. Thankfully this is an audio forum not a spelling B.  :)
