Sounds like the job of the future would be piloting drones.

What about the drones that might get molested by birds looking for a mate?

Amazon's plan is they will be unmanned - no pilots - totally autonomous guided only by GPS, satellite images, Google images and other automatic systems.

Steve

If you think hacking into systems is bad now, imagine how the computer geniuses will have a field day shopping from the sky.  It'll be like picking your fish dinner from the big tank in the lobby.  "oooh, I think I'll have what THAT drone is hauling!"

In the short space of less than 5 years this quad or mutlicopters has grown from a DIY with crude servos & gyros to sophisticated aerial photography / video platform with GPS way point etc. in the hobby segment. Amazing.

Here's mine from a few years back.

Gyro + Servo + a few motors.

For a while there, some Colorado gummint officials were encouraging residents of that fair state to shoot down drones, to send a message to the NSA people I guess.
Anyhow, it now looks like drones are replacing the ubiquitous black helicopter in the minds of conspiracy theorists hereabouts.
I see tough sledding ahead for anyone flying these gizmos -- at least in the South and the Rocky Mountain West.

 But seriously, don't air traffic controllers have enough to worry about?
