Ha ha yes, and why does everyone think speakers are the best place to plant anything they happen to have in their hands, usually drinks.

Well, there is one way to discourage friends and family from planting drinks on speakers ...

We all know that people that make these interest story articles are full of crap. First they say don't eat this. Then, they say eat that.

It's safe to say this author doesn't know anything. We all know that tube amplifiers sit on the floor between the speakers and a rack. What's the person going to do; walk over , bend down , and balance the drink glass on the actual vacuum tube?

I suppose there are a myriad of speaker designs one could buy to discourage beverage placement, although I'm sure for designs like the last one pictured, there would always be some joker testing his glass balancing skill.

"while cutting a watermelon on top of a 1958 Fender Twin."

Unless the [fictional] character in the story is driving his speakers with a guitar amp I would say your comment is off base.

A vintage ’70s-era McIntosh MC2100 tube amplifier,

The news article starts out with a home audio amplifier reference as well as the term "high end audio" refers to home amplifiers.

If you have somebody butting food on your vintage guitar amplifier (or drinks on your speakers), then you need new friends.

Or it could be a useful strategy for getting your wife on board to upgrade the gear. "Jeez honey, last night one of your friends spilled a drink in the hi-fi and now it don't work."

"Why do we have to have such large speakers though.

I was at the mall, and this store called B.O.S.E. had this..."

My wife has a bad habit of using the top of the N-3's I built to stash things on (no drinks though which is good since these have a shellac finish). I've told her if she doesn't stop disrespecting these speakers (even though I built them for her) I'd take them out and she could have a BOSE.

OK that's really an empty threat since then I'd have to listen to the BOSE too. Do you think she knows that

^ Those two on the left are clearly making fun of his vintage horn kit. "Speakers right on the floor, lol. I bet he's not even using cable risers".

Drinks on speakers is not really a problem for those who use flat panel/planars or certain types of Open Baffle speakers.

"So it’s almost a sign of respect when my friends put a rum and coke or a tub of hummus on top of them.”

Sounds like this guy has more money than brains.
How about mud stained boots on an expensive white couch, to show my friendship ?
Geeezzz !!!
