Title: Kitoki v2 ? Can you please tell me how you like your amp?
Post by: tdinut on 27 Dec 2018, 11:42 pm
The more I look at this amp, the more I like it. Can you please tell me who you like yours? I'm thinking about pulling the trigger.

Thank you.

I never heard the V2, only the first one that was 2 watts. 2 watts was not enough power for my 86db speakers. But the sound was incredible. I imagine the V2 will sound as good or even better. The SQ is first class from Wolf Ear. :thumb:

Tom, you seem to be the only one who comments on Wolf Ear. Is there another forum that you know of where Wolf Ear is more prominent? The lack of owners willing to offer any experience with their amps makes me wonder what’s going on. Wolf Ear themselves don’t seem to chime in too often either.

How much is Andrew paying you to say this??? LOL  :D
Just kidding. Andrew is a great guy! It looks like he makes some legit gear! Reading comments like this is making my decisions VERY tough. I am sure the new V2 with 5watts per channel will be plenty for my ZU Audio Omen's at 97db efficiency. After all the most of the dynamics are all in that crucial first watt. I want to know how this set amp compares with my Allo Vot+. I have had amps in and out of my system and the Allo beats them all.

I share your exact same concerns. About not a lot of owners at all and no real involvement from WolfEar on this forum. in fact on one of the threads I even posted about it almost being dead for two years! It doesn't inspire confidence. I actually brought my concerns to Andrew himself and there were a couple of responses from him.

He has been under the weather this past year. Which that’s a totally valid reason for not as much involvement as he would like.

And that he doesn't have a lot of these amps out there as of yet. Small company an all. He only sells a few per month. He builds each one by hand himself and nobody else puts their hands on his stuff. Which I am TOTALLY fine with that. If he is the expert and the one building them himself, that's what I am looking for. Hands on involvement. Not someone who started the company building his own stuff and now sources it out to someone else. That’s exactly what I am looking for. Small company who builds spectacularl products and has a passion for what he or she does. From the conversations I have had with Andrew, seems like a very stand up guy. And passionate about audio.

But with all that explained to me, I am still waiting to hear from other owners of his amps. Even with a few built per month, I would like to hear from some of them and see some more involvement on this forum. I am close to pulling the trigger on one of his amps but would love to hear from other owners and Andrew, lets hear from you too! Lets get this forum up and running! I so bad want to be a fan boy and have your amp powering my brand new ZU Audio Omens!

Thanks AvsFan and Tom,

I really only need a few watts myself but I am looking for some dead quiet, sweet and a little "classic" tube watts for my Avantgarde 107dB 18 ohm Duo XD speakers.

My original review was under the Kitoki tour in March 2016. I just wanted to try a SET tube amp on my Zellatons I owned then. Those are the most revealing speakers I have ever owned. I was very happy with my DAC Cherry amps, until the Kitoki came in. That amp showed up some weaknesses that the Cherry amps had. If I had only needed 2 watts, I would have bought the amp. It was very fast and quiet.

So you are getting a very un-biased review since I do not own one. At this price, are there any other SET amps on the market with this value? It made me disappointed enough to buy the 30v psu for the Cherries. That improved the Cherry amps quite a bit, but the Kitoki was long gone so I had no way to compare.

I do not know any other forum tomy2tone. Anybody getting into this business can be very tough. Look at David Berning today. He was like Andrew here 40 years ago. Now David is well known by almost everyone in audio.

If you are looking for the classic sound in tube amps, you might want to buy a classic amp. The Kitoki might be too revealing and transparent for you. My friend Rex had a pair of those Duos and had a nightmare finding the right amps. He finally gave up. I would try an older David Bernig EA-230 myself. They are very easy to resell.

OzarkTom. I remember your review. I also remember the review that the one guy put up that had the Omega 3xrs dual rs5 driver speakers that said this was a game ending amp. But then everything went quiet on this forum. It disappointed me. I started looking into other stuff and ended up playing with the inexpensive class d amps. Which sound spectacular. But I keep wondering about the beauty and magic of set amps. So do you think with tommy2tones 107db efficient speakers and my ZU 97db efficienct speakers, that 5 watts would do the trick? My rooms is small. 12x18. But I do listen to heavy demanding music sometimes. Industrial. NIN, Miniistry, Skinny Puppy. Do you think this set amp could handle that? And you ask about value on set amps. The only other company I can think of that makes spectacular set amps is Decware.

It will be enough to blow your ear drums out. Decware should be good also. I would love to hear the 25th anniversary amp Steve made. But the price is pretty high. I am now ujsing about 97db Alnico FR speakers and love them. Zellatons were the greatest, but I can get by with less.

Rex is wanting a pair of Decwares DNA Horn 2's.

Hey guys. Sorry about the serious amount of absence this past year. Some major health and personal issues aside (thought they dealt with a few months ago, etc) I am now fully back and able to engage my forum again and will be finishing my product launches later this month that have fallen far behind.
Now to answer your question, this amp is more than you would need with most of the speakers mentioned here (honestly, anything 90db@1 sensitivity or greater will have no problem being driven by the Kitoki V2).
I'm going to spend some time responding to messages but will get back to everyone on this forum :)
