Alternate Clarinet transformer question

Been waiting for fundz for another 370BX but have on hand a custom wound Heyboer power tranny.

Specs: 420-340-260-0-260-340-420 100mA.
          6.3 and 5.0VAC @3.0A

Seems like this should work with a 5U4 rectifier, yes?

Will the Clarinet be happy with a little less juice, about 330, off the 260V taps?

With 3 amps a 5u4g should be ok.  Not sure what you mean by 330 less than 260.

260x2=520Vac; after rectifier about 65% left= 338vDC?

It will run fine.  Not sure what happens to sound.  I sort of had it tuned for a certain operating point.  Fortunately, it is a very wide operating point.  With less voltage, I think you'll get a little more warmth.

How's about 380 volts off the 420 taps with a 5(?) Henry choke in place of the resistor?

Choke is good.  Make sure it has plenty of ESR (unlike what most people think).  Like 200+ ohms.

I finally reached a decision and pulled the 370BX from the Aikido and installed the big Heyboer in it's place.

I want the Clarinet to have the 'voicing' that Jim designed so that's where the Hammond goes. Thanks, Jim.

Bill,

I hope your Clarinet sings nicely with the other children!  Isn't it great having transformers laying about the place?  Can you tell we have DIY in our blood....or what?  Who's your fav for the superbowl?
