OB2X construction questions
« on: 17 Aug 2007, 09:46 pm »
A couple of questions about the OB2X build...

1) Can I mount the crossovers inside the box and then attach the baffle?
- or should I build it all and mount the crossovers thru the port opening?

2) Do you recommend cutting the top corners of the baffle, as shown with the prototype?
- or can I leave them ala Turbo FCS?

3) Do you recommend gluing and screwing?
 - or Will glue be sufficient?

TIA - Jared

1) Can I mount the crossovers inside the box and then attach the baffle? No do not as if you make an error how do you get them out?
- or should I build it all and mount the crossovers Threw the port opening? Yes threw the port hole

2) Do you recommend cutting the top corners of the baffle, as shown with the prototype? This really doe not change the response anything greatly a little off axis vertically but not drastic.
- or can I leave them ala Turbo FCS? YES

3) Do you recommend gluing and screwing? Recommend yellow wood glue for sure and if you want use a few screws t hold then remove the screws and fill the areas with a filler.
 - or Will glue be sufficient? Yes if you can clamp them

TIA - Jared

You can mount them throught he port-hole.  I have done it.  Just take out the port and then you can get them in.  Two of my cabinets were pre-assembled from Al so that is how I did the crossovers on them.

Thanks....did you use hot-glue to afix them to the inside of the box?

Anything to keep in mind when I do this?
( I am just glue the box together right now, and only have the mid xover left to assemble).

Yes I used hot glue.  (no screws or anything, just generous amounts of hotglue)

I put them all in first prior to hot glue to make sure they would fit.  (since the test cabinets were pre-assembled)  Then I just hot glued them in.  From there I connected the wires to the terminal cup and screwed that back in.  Also before I hot glued I put the port back on to make sure it wasn't going to hit any of the components.

Wired up the speakers to the crossovers and worked fine.  I had the crossovers running for several hours external from the speaker before I mounted them.

I took a few pictures while mounting the boards.  Let me see if I can post them later tonight, it will give you a visual.

JRace, I posted a couple of pictures in my OB2X build thread.
http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=43118.0

I put the larger crossovers on opposing sides, and the smaller tweeter crossover in the middle.  The woofer and midrange are pushed down near the bottom of the cabinet on the sides.  The tweeter is on the back of the front panel but higher up to create some space between the crossovers.

Jared.
Did you not get all the wiring I set to you before I went on vacation.

A is positive to the AMP
B is connection to positive on the woofer
C is just a connection soldered. Not to anything solder them together
D is ground to the Amp and positive to the woofer

I marked the ends of the speaker wire with what they go to also.  That way when you mount the boards, it is easy to tell which ones go to the terminal cup and which to the speaker.
