WTB: issues of Fanfare magazine
« on: 12 May 2012, 08:57 pm »
i have a near-complete run of Fanfare from inception up through the mid 90s.  i haven't got the date of my last issue handy, but i'd like to fill in what's missing.

if anyone has copies they'd like to unload, please let me know.

If you're a magazine collector and want a complete set for that reason, good luck.

If you're looking for knowledgeable, honest and accurate reviews of classical CDs seek out issues of the American Record Guide. There is no comparison in quality between the two magazines. ARG sells many back issues.

i did read ARG and fanfare at the same time, back when i was reading reviews at all.  i found Fanfare more to my taste, covering a wider selection of music, with an excellent jazz section.  this is not to diminish the value of ARG in any way.  i simply preferred Fanfare and its often maddeningly opinionated reviewers.

have more entertaining music columns than those penned by mike silverton ever been written?  ok, perhaps those of hans keller ...

and no, i'm not "just" a magazine collector (what a strange hobby).
