DSD on Mac OS
« on: 14 Jun 2016, 09:04 pm »
Some people have asked about play DSD256 on Mac OS and as far as we know, our current DACs only support up to DSD128 on Mac, but DSD256 on PC.
The reason is that on Mac OS, DSD has to be encoded as DoP stream (DSD over PCM) and it takes 50% more bandwidth, therefore to support DSD256 on Mac, the DAC would have to be able to decode 768kHz.

If anyone has found a way to play DSD256 on a Mac for NuPrime DAC, I will like to know.  This is mainly a curiosity since we don't expect to have DSD256 music for the foreseeable future.

Hello Jason, I use on mac osx native file DSD256 with HQplayer (such as software) and NAA ( network audio adapter). NAA use as a mini pc fanless fitlet it runs on a S.O. WS2012R2 and the nuprime the dac-10 driver, this way I can listen to (no DOP) mode all DSD files 64, 128 and 256.

the NAA works so

the two PC operating (mac osx and mini pc windows)

of the DAC-10 nuprime drivers loaded on NAA (audio network daemon) of HQPlayer.
you can see all capionamenti oversampling and the software (HQPlayer) is capable of supporting.

Wow! Thanks, it is an elaborate setup but it overcomes the limitation.
I will add this to the FAQ on the website.
