Lapsis (2021) - topical and quirky sci-fi

In the not too distant future the gig economy is still going strong. Dean Imperial plays Ray, an amiable guy who needs to make extra money to pay for his ailing brother's medical care. Ray could be you or me just trying the best we can. Ray gets a job laying cable between quantum computers used for high speed trading, of course Ray and the other gig workers have long hours for very little pay and are competing with robot cable layers that are slower but never rest or sleep.

Lapis is a low budget sci-fi satire with big ideas, it's a little amateurish in the beginning but the film draws you in with it's quirky characters and growing sympathy for Ray's plight. Never preachy and with a quiet humor, Lapis is a good natured journey into our future.
