I like this Branford Marsalis CD better.

There are two "bluesy, jazzy" songs:
- B.B.'s Blues
- Rib Tip Johnson
That together consume twenty minutes total.  :thumb: Excellent "blues/jazz".
Plus, there's a weird little track called "Berta Berta", that will one day end up on some speaker manufactures demo disc. You'd have to hear it to understand.

And.... There's a song callee "Mable" that has John Lee Hooker singing.  8)

"I heard you twice the first time"

I like this album too. The opening cut Brother Trying to Catch a Cab (on the Eastside) Blues cracks me up. :icon_lol: Actually I like Bradford's style more than that of his more famous brother, Wynton .

Great thread here.

Just played The Big Sound Johnny Hodges and the Ellington Men.

Billy Strayhorn on piano with 3 bands of Ellington grads including Clark Terry, Cat Anderson, Willie Cook, Ray Nance, Quentin Jackson, Paul Gonsalves etc. This is an LP on Japanese Polydor. Great sound and big fun.

This was recorded in 1977.  I have a copy of the first CD transfer from 1984.  It is great jazz that everyone (Jazz lover or not) likes.

Passing Ships- Andrew Hill Octet (Blue Note).  If you like AH's Point of Departure, you most probably will like this.  I know I do.  Lenny White replaces Tony Williams and Ron Carter replaces Richard Davis.  Woody Shaw, Julian Priester, Joe Farrell and Howard Johnson compose the horn section.

I have that cd too, plus the K2HD remaster which is great sonically but reinforces at least IMHO that the performance is good not very good or great.

Similar in style but a better performance is IMHO

Monterey Concerts - Cal Tjader

First disk is great sonically just about a demo disk...
Sadly the 2nd is a mess sonically, performances are fine but makes me think the roadies tied one on after the first session and were not ready for primetime the next day.  A shame!!!!
